Infective
larvae are eaten and migrate through the blood
stream to the main airways where they develop
into adults. Eggs are laid, coughed up, swallowed
and passed out in the dung. Lungworm causes
respiratory problems and persistent coughing in
adult horses. Symptoms are
rarely seen in foals or donkeys, but they can
act as carriers for the parasite.
